Ricky Gervais - Gervais Spooked At Haunted Hotel

British comedian RICKY GERVAIS got the fright of his life when publicity for his new flick was sunk by paranormal activity in a Hollywood Hotel.

Office star Gervais was late hosting a series of press junkets for his new pic, Ghost Town, at the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles, but left in a hurry when flighty happenings scared him and his co-workers.

A terrified movie executive revealed that their work was disrupted by a string of occult occurrences.

The white House tells British newspaper the Daily Star, "We treasured the junkets at the Roosevelt because of its ghostly reputation. But we got so much more than than we bargained for. A photoshoot we fain was wrecked and two runners say they saw the public figure of a lady in the full-length mirror.

"The final straw came when a production help stayed in the room earmarked for Ricky and claimed to have been freezing cold on the hottest day of the year. He said he woke up with someone whistling in his ear, even though he was alone, and so heard a giggle before being pushed out of bed."

The Roosevelt has long been known as the most haunted hotel in Hollywood later on years of reported ghostlike sightings.

On Second Thought, Shia LaBeoufs Indiana Jones Spinoff Is a Pretty Crappy Idea, Says George Lucas

Back in May, George Lucas struck fear into the hearts of pretty much everyone familiar with Shia LaBeouf's acting work when he told a journalist, "I have an idea to make Shia [LaBeouf] the lead character next time and have Harrison [Ford] come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie. I can see it working out." Now, though, he seems to have changed his mind, hilariously telling an MTV reporter that the idea had "nuked the fridge." He continued: "Indiana Jones is Indiana Jones. Harrison Ford IS Indiana Jones If it was [Shia's character] Mutt Williams it would be Mutt Williams and the Search for Elvis or something."

And as much as we'd actually sort of like to see Mutt Williams and the Search for Elvis or Something, we're pretty glad Lucas seems to have temporarily come to his senses. Could this have something to do with LaBeouf's recent DUI arrest? Or did Lucas finally get around to watching Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? Either way, just as soon as he disowns the Star Wars prequels and the upcoming animated Clone Wars movie, we might actually be able to forgive the guy.

Sara Bareilles, Little Voice

Sara Bareilles is a 28-year-old singer songwriter whose career trajectory has been carefully nurtured following the signing of a major label deal three years ago. Before this she'd already recorded a self-produced album, Careful Confessions (2003). Already doing sterling business in the US, it's taken a year for this album to be finally released in the UK, possibly for fear that her album would be lost in the flood of female singer songwriters currently filling up the AOR airwaves. But Epic needn't have worried. Little Voice displays a more than competent grasp of pop dynamics, and Bareilles' voice balances sultry with strident impressively. While it'll leave the youth market cold, Bareilles' tough-but-tender confessionals and jaunty, multi-layered beatle-esque pop for grown ups (a la Jellyfish or Aimee Mann) should easily find a home in the hearts of more seasoned ears.

It's this aspect of Sara Bareilles' work - especially on Fairytale, Bottle It Up or Love Song - that will draw older listeners. The lush backing vocals, upbeat cynicism and clever, slightly psychedelic, loping arrangements hit the mark with ease. There are other odious comparisons to make of course - someone this new on the scene can't escape them - Fiona Apple for downers maybe, or Tori Amos without the irritating quirkiness? But the latter reference is probably more down to the fact that Little Voice is produced by Eric Rosse who helmed several of Amos' albums. The fact is that Bareilles is still finding her true vocabulary; the sonic pallette on display here is wiggling its behind and getting comfortable in one place. So apart from the worryingly mainstream fare like Between The Lines which has seen her matched in a support role to acts like Ben Folds, Maroon 5 or even Counting Crows there's the far more interesting r 'n' b twist that surfaces on tracks like Come Round Soon or the Benny And The Jets-meets-Hall and Oates blue-eyed confection, Love On The Rocks. Elsewhere Many The Miles demonstrates that she's best when being upfront about her own experiences with a slinky beat to coax her more distinctive vocal side.

There is a slight caveat emptor clause for faithful followers, as several of the tracks on offer here are re-recorded tracks that were on Careful Confessions (albeit vastly improved), plus the piano ballads like City or Gravity simply drag the pace too much, even though they never lapse into excessively maudlin introspection. Whether this kind of very American music will find an audience beyond the parameters of a Radio 2 audience remains to be seen. But for lovers of quality pop with a brain this is no little achievement.

Reunited James plays surprise L.A. show

By Dean Goodman

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Reunited British rock band James,
who enjoyed cult success in America during the early '90s,
played their first U.S. concert in Los Angeles on Friday since
ending a lengthy hiatus last year.

The hourlong gig at Spaceland, a 260-capacity club near
Hollywood, showcased a handful of tunes from James' new album
"Hey Ma," including the anti-war title track.

The album will be released in the United States on
September 16 via Decca Records. It came out in Britain in
April, the band's first studio release since 2001's "Pleased To
Meet You."

James fell apart after singer Tim Booth quit at the end of
2001, and pursued a solo and acting career. Now living in Los
Angeles, he announced early last year that he would rejoin
James, and the band subsequently toured the UK and Europe.

Five of the Manchester band's seven members were in the
United States this week, primarily to play at an iTunes event
in San Francisco, and then at Los Angeles public radio station
KCRW-FM.

The Spaceland show was a last-minute addition to the
itinerary, but the budget-related absence of keyboardist Mark
Hunter and drummer David Baynton-Power forced the band to
improvise a bit during its ballad-heavy set.

"Even more than usual, we won't know what we're doing,"
joked Booth, who now resembles R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe
after ditching his curly locks for a shaved head and goatee.

Besides "Hey Ma," which Booth said was about "the
over-reaction to 9/11" by President George W. Bush and former
UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, other new tunes included
"Waterfall," "Oh My Heart" and "Whiteboy."

Kirsten Dunst checks into rehab - reports

Actress Kirsten Dunst has checked herself into rehab, according to reports.
The 'Spider-Man' actress has joined Eva Mendes at the Cirque Lodge clinic in Utah, where Lindsay Lohan underwent a two-month treatment programme last year.
A Utah source told Star magazine that Dunst, who has played Spider-Man's love interest Mary Jane Watson in all three movies, broke down in tears when she checked in.
The insider said: "She desperately needed help. She seemed to be intoxicated when she checked in because she was acting really erratic.
"She was extremely emotional, constantly breaking down in tears. She is not in a good place right now, but, thankfully, she's getting the help she needs."
A spokeswoman for Dunst declined to comment last night.

Warrant looks for new dates after Cinderella tour falls through

Warrant [ tickets ] is scrambling to put together a new summer schedule after an injury to tour partner Cinderella [ tickets ]'s lead singer has forced the cancellation of its upcoming US outing. The veteran hard rockers, who feature their original lineup--Jani Lane (vocals), Joey Allen (lead guitar), Jerry Dixon (bass), Erik Turner (guitar) and Steven Sweet (drums)--on the road for the first time since 1994, were set to kick off a two-month stretch later this month with Cinderella, Lynch Mob and Lynam."It's with unbelievably deep regret that I must announce that Cinderella's Tom Keifer's left vocal cord has hemorrhaged, thereby making it impossible for him to sing in the immediate future," Cinderella manager Tim Heyne said last week in a press statement."Tom felt his throat give way last [week] finishing the set in pre-production rehearsals, went to his vocal doctor (Dr. Stephen Mitchell) in Nashville this morning, and was told the grim news. In the short term, Tom's doctor told him it would be two to three weeks before the swelling and damage would recede to a point to where an assessment can be made as to whether surgery will be required."Consequently, and again, most regretfully, we have no choice but to postpone the upcoming Cinderella tour until such time as Tom is ready tour again," Heyne added."Warrant would like to wish Tom a speedy recovery and hopes that the tour may be postponed for another time," read a post on Warrant's MySpace page.Fans holding tickets to the canceled shows will be refunded at their point of purchase.Warrant still has several scheduled appearances this summer outside of the canceled Cinderella tour dates, including a June 22 show in Montreal with Motley Crue and a July 12 slot at the four-day Rocklahoma festival in Pryor, OK. Details on the remaining dates are included below.Warrant's most recent studio album, 2006's "Born Again," is the band's only album to feature singer Jaime St. James, who departed following original lead singer Lane's return to the group earlier this year.

Brokeback Mountain - Gay Filmmakers Unable To Land Theatrical Releases

Despite the success of Brokeback Mountain in theaters and Brothers &
Sisters on television, gay-themed movies are "doing worse than ever" according
to a report by the Reuter News Agency. The drop-off in attendance is being blamed
on the proliferation of "gaysploitation" films that are easily available on Amazon,
gay-oriented cable channels like MTV-owned Logo, cable pay-per-view, the Internet,
and Netflix. Few of these films, however, are aimed at mainstream audiences, possibly
because they are doing so well with gay audiences. Commenting on the trend, the Reuters
article concluded, "Despite breakthroughs like Brokeback, gay films already
are well down the same path as 1970s black films, where quality projects like
Sounder were the exception and blaxploitation flicks were the rule."
